Private Dentistry (https://dentistry.co.uk/) celebrates 25 years this year as a leading dental publication in the UK. The dental world was very different back in 1996 when the title launched as ‘Independent Dentistry’. When it was launched back in 1996, there weren’t any dental awards in the UK and the idea had probably not even been mooted. Traditionally, the healthcare professions had shied away from awards as they felt they could pitch clinicians ‘against’ each other. However, it had become clear that in the case of dentistry, there was a lot of good news to share and that patients were and are discerning individuals who can make their choice of clinician using a wide range of criteria and that dentists could celebrate excellence – clinical or otherwise.
