The answer is very! The new trend in social media has great opportunities for your practice. Twitter and Facebook particularly can be used to raise awareness of you, your practice and the services on offer. These websites are all about building relationships and trust. They won't necessarily deliver instant results but over time you can build up a following who will value you and the information that you post.
A note of caution - they shouldn't be used to sell directly. If you post 'cheap whitening here' it is unlikely to deliver results. Post items of interest and you will soon reap the rewards.
